‘Homs Resources’ is considering setting the end of the irrigation season for the Houla project
The Water Resources Directorate in Homs Governorate continues to provide the 'final irrigations' for the Houla irrigation project, aiming to supply the planted areas with the necessary water for various summer crops, and to ensure they reach full maturity with the best possible yield.
The directorate explained that the current irrigation operations target an area of /1236/ hectares, which includes a mixed basket of agricultural crops such as vegetables, fodder corn, and soybeans.
In the interest of managing water resources wisely, the directorate, in coordination with the relevant agricultural sector authorities and the local community, conducted a field tour covering the entire project area. During the tour, committees reviewed the general condition of the crops and their actual water needs, in addition to gathering farmers’ opinions to understand their requirements before making the final decision on when to end the irrigation season.
These measures aim to achieve the highest possible crop yields, which positively affects farmers’ living conditions, supports their stability on their land, strengthens the food and water security system, and ensures the environmental sustainability of water resources.
