Latakia Governorate is located in the northwest of Syria, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and has abundant water. Most of its lands are covered with forests and orchards. The area of the governorate is 2,297 square kilometers, and the number of its villages is 500. It borders Turkey to the north, Idlib Governorate to the east, and Tartus Governorate to the south. Latakia Governorate is famous for the beauty of its nature, with many towns, villages, and resorts situated in the embrace of green mountains covered with natural forests, fruit trees, and orchards.
Latakia Governorate has many antiquities, archaeological sites, historic cities, and castles along the Latakia mountains.
It also has several short rivers, lakes, numerous natural springs, and waterfalls. Tourist facilities, hotels, and parks are spread across all famous mountain and coastal resorts as well as in the main cities. The cities and areas of Latakia are characterized by a moderate climate in the summer, cold in the winter, with snow falling on the mountainous highlands.
