The water resources in Tartous are getting ready to implement the digital irrigation system
The Directorate of Water Resources in Tartous has begun steps toward implementing a digital irrigation system in the government irrigation networks, aiming to improve the management and distribution of irrigation water, increase its efficiency, and enhance the sustainability of water resources.
In this context, the Director of Water Resources, Engineer Mohammad Mohrez, held a meeting with the Head of the Water Information Department in Latakia, Engineer Ali Istanbuli, along with relevant personnel from the directorate, to review aspects related to the system and Latakia Governorate’s experience, as a preparation for applying it in Tartous Governorate.
The system allows monitoring and tracking of irrigation operations and determining the irrigation rate in different sectors spatially and in schedules, relying on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and databases, providing accurate information that helps in decision-making and organizing irrigation according to actual needs.
Applying the system also helps reduce waste and improve the regularity of irrigation water distribution among different sectors, positively impacting farmers and the agricultural production process.
This approach is part of the digital transformation in managing government irrigation networks and developing tools for monitoring water resources and decision-making to keep up with the requirements of modern water sector management.
