The General Water Resources Authority is keeping an eye on the readiness of irrigation projects and drainage work in Banyas.

The Director-General of the General Authority for Water Resources, Engineer Ahmed Al-Kawan, accompanied by the Water Resources Director in Tartus, Engineer Mohammed Muharriz, conducted a field tour in the Banyas area to review the progress of irrigation and drainage plans and the readiness of water facilities.

The tour included the Surit Irrigation Project, where the delegation reviewed the operation and readiness of the irrigation canal that waters 500 square metres of farmland in the areas of Arab Al-Malik, Harisun and Al-Qaloua, and listened to technical staff suggestions on ways to improve the efficiency of the canal and its networks.

Engineer Al-Kawan also met with several farmers to discuss their irrigation demands, emphasising the importance of field follow-up on the watering plan to ensure a continuous water supply for agricultural lands.

He also inspected ongoing and completed drainage works in the Banyas, Jubbah and Surit rivers, stressing the need to implement the drainage plan according to the scheduled timeline to reduce potential flood damage during the winter season.
