With the increasing demand for drinking water for the many residential communities in the western and eastern areas of Daraa Governorate, and the decrease in the flow of many water sources, especially in July and August (the months of fires), the Daraa Water Resources Directorate continues, along with regional directors and sub-district directorates in the governorate, to crack down on and monitor the seizure and confiscation of illegal drilling rigs that dig unauthorized and random wells in many areas of the governorate. These wells are a major cause of depletion of groundwater resources and affect drinking water. Last week, the water authorities and sub-district directorates seized six drilling rigs from the areas of Al-Lajah, Izraa, Dael, and Al-Mazra'a (As-Suwayda) and brought them to the rig garage for further investigations and necessary procedures. With this, the total number of confiscated illegal rigs rises to 76.
