The early workshop at the Water Resources Directorate in Deir ez-Zor has begun dredging the side canal adjacent to the main channel as part of the Euphrates River water diversion project towards the Khabour River.
This is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the efficiency of water infrastructure and support the agricultural sector.
These works aim to reduce the formation of swamps and the rise of water levels in the agricultural lands adjacent to the canal, which pose a direct threat to crops by exposing them to damage, in addition to increasing soil salinity.
The dredging works also help limit the formation of voids beneath the canal structure, enhancing its stability and ensuring its continued operation efficiently, benefiting farmers and preserving water resources in the area.
