Successful trial of operating the Euphrates River siphon after its maintenance and reinforcement to serve more than 1,000 hectares of farmland
The experiment involved running water until the siphon, which has a diameter of 800 millimeters, was filled, then opening the gate all at once to remove the remaining silt, sediments, and debris accumulated inside, using a chain bucket attached to the General Construction and Building Corporation. The siphon is 130 meters long, and the experiment proved the efficiency of the part that underwent maintenance and its ability to pass water.
The rehabilitation of the siphon comes as part of efforts to improve the efficiency of irrigation facilities and restore their readiness, helping ensure the continuous delivery of irrigation water to more than 1,000 hectares of farmland, and assisting farmers in meeting the water needs of their crops and supporting agricultural activity in the area.
The remaining work for the project, including backfilling, leveling, and rehabilitating the work site, is being completed to ensure the structure is stabilized and the site is returned to its proper condition.
The General Water Resources Authority extends its thanks to the technical staff and workers at the Latakia Water Resources Directorate, as well as the General Construction and Building Corporation, for their efforts and cooperation in carrying out the maintenance and rehabilitation of the siphon, contributing to improving the irrigation system and serving agricultural lands and farmers.
