Releasing irrigation water from Mdeyanki Dam to support the agricultural season in the Afrin plains

The Directorate of Water Resources in Aleppo continues to implement its plans aimed at supporting the agricultural sector, as irrigation water from the Midaanki Dam was released towards the Afrin plains irrigation projects, in the presence of the Director-General of the General Authority for Water Resources, Mr. Ahmed Al-Kawan, the Director of Technical Affairs (Mr. Abdul Karim Mansour) at the Authority, the Director of Machinery (Mr. Anas Hamoud), the Director of Damascus and its Countryside Resources, Engineer (Basel Al-Ghafari), and the Director of Water Resources in Aleppo (Mr. Ahmed Al-Ali).
 
The Midaanki Dam project aims to store Afrin River water with a capacity of 190 million cubic meters, ensuring the sustainability of water resources and meeting agricultural and drinking water needs in the area.
 
The dam's water is used to irrigate a net area of 18,609 hectares and also provides the cities of Afrin and A'zaz with drinking water amounting to up to 15 million cubic meters.
 
The irrigated areas within the project are distributed as follows:
 
Olive trees: 52%.
Fruit trees: 11%.
Field crops, including wheat, barley, cotton, and sugar beet: 31%.
Vegetables: 6%.
 
The project is being implemented as part of efforts to boost water security and support agricultural production, helping to make better use of water resources and achieve sustainable agricultural development in northern rural Aleppo.
