Ongoing maintenance and dredging of drainage channels in the countryside of Deir Ezzor

The Al-Bawaker workshop at the Water Resources Directorate in Deir Ezzor continues its fieldwork in cleaning and dredging the main canal that stretches from the Euphrates River, passing through the villages of Al-Kharita, Zghir Shamiyah, Hawayij, Ain Al-Bujma’a, and Ayash.

The work included removing weeds, silt, and accumulated sludge from the canal’s course to facilitate water flow toward the Euphrates River and reduce the formation and spread of stagnant water in the Zghir, Hawayij, and Bujma’a areas.

These efforts come as part of the focus on improving the environmental and health conditions for locals by limiting stagnant water which serves as a breeding ground for harmful insects and causes unpleasant odors, along with associated health risks.

Dredging work also helps lower water levels in nearby agricultural lands and reduces groundwater levels, helping to minimize soil salinity risks and preserve farmland.

The Water Resources Directorate in Deir Ezzor confirms it will continue maintenance and dredging work within available resources to enhance the efficiency of the drainage network, protect agricultural lands, and serve the residents in various areas.
