Maintenance and rehabilitation of irrigation projects and pumping stations in preparation for the new agricultural season in Aleppo Governorate.

The Directorate of Water Resources in Aleppo has initiated periodic and seasonal maintenance and rehabilitation work on irrigation projects and pumping stations across the province’s countryside. This effort is part of a preparedness plan for the upcoming agricultural season and encompasses the Maskana West, Maskana East, and Al-Munsha’a projects, with the goal of enhancing the readiness and operational efficiency of the irrigation system.

At the Al-Munsha’a project, concrete pouring for the main canals has begun; over 1,000 square meters have already been completed in the sixth farm sector, in cooperation with international organizations. Simultaneously, elevated canals within the farm sectors are being prepared using the Directorate’s own machinery and technical staff. Preparations are also underway to begin concrete pouring in the Maskana East project’s farm sectors in the coming days, alongside the repair of elevated canals across various projects—work that commenced following the suspension of irrigation on October 15.

The maintenance plan includes clearing open drains and main canals, as well as performing essential maintenance on primary and secondary pumping stations. These measures are intended to improve the efficiency of irrigation water conveyance and distribution, minimize operational breakdowns during the season, and ensure that water reaches agricultural lands and farmers in a timely manner.

The General Authority for Water Resources extends its gratitude to the Directorate’s technical staff, workforce, and project management teams for their efforts in carrying out these maintenance and rehabilitation tasks, which bolster the readiness of irrigation projects and support the stability of agricultural operations throughout the province.
