Following up on the implementation of the Baradoun and Sheikh Hassan dam projects to boost the water supply in Latakia

A meeting was held at the Latakia Water Resources Directorate, chaired by the Director of Water Resources, Engineer Mahmoud Al-Qaddar, with the participation of the supervision committees for the Bradon and Sheikh Hassan Dam projects. The meeting aimed to follow up on the progress of the work done, identify the difficulties and obstacles facing implementation, and work on addressing them to ensure the completion of both projects according to the planned schedules.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the work at Bradon Dam, being carried out by the Syrian Construction and Building Corporation, where the completion rate has reached about 86%, with a storage capacity of up to 140 million cubic meters. The dam is considered one of the important strategic projects for enhancing the water infrastructure in the governorate, as it plays a role in providing drinking water and irrigating about 7,500 hectares of agricultural land, including 5,000 hectares within the Ain Al-Bayda Plateau project, and an additional 2,500 hectares of farmland in the area, contributing to supporting and stabilizing agricultural production.

The meeting also covered the implementation status of Sheikh Hassan Dam, carried out by the Syrian Construction and Building Corporation, which has reached about 76% completion, with a storage capacity of 1.776 million cubic meters. It helps provide drinking and irrigation water to nearby villages and supports agricultural activities there.

The meeting emphasized the importance of both projects in boosting the water reserves in Lattakia Governorate, improving the use of available water resources, and supporting water and agricultural security, which positively reflects on meeting the water needs of the population and agricultural lands in the area.
