Emergency and intensive response to rainfall.. Water resources in Latakia mobilize their machinery to address blockages and open drainage channels
In response to the rainfall in Latakia Governorate and to ensure proper drainage and reduce the impact of heavy rains, the Water Resources Directorate has stepped up its emergency fieldwork, sending its machinery and technical teams to several sites to immediately deal with blockages and obstacles that hinder the flow of water.
The response included unclogging two culverts in the village of Al-Omrouniya after they had become blocked, and partially clearing the stream, along with carrying out intensive drainage work on culverts and waterways in Moroj Damsarkho and Ras Al-Shamra, and clearing the openings of Al-Khashkhasha Bridge on the Zaghreen River.
Machinery also intervened to clear five culverts on Musa Canal extending to its outlet into the sea, and inspections were carried out on other culverts to ensure they were ready and able to drain water during heavy rainfall.
As part of the response to the erosion caused by rainfall, soil erosion was stabilized on the Al-Harajiya – Um Al-Tuyur road, and a water channel was opened on both sides of the road towards the Ballouran River, alongside the clearing of the Sayano River course.
The rainfall response efforts were accompanied by continued clearing of the main canal and its seventh branch in the Arab Al-Malik and Bostan Saleh areas, which helps strengthen the readiness of the drainage system and irrigation networks to handle increasing water volumes.
The Directorate of Water Resources in Latakia confirms that they remain in a state of readiness and field alert, intervening immediately at sites that need attention, prioritizing opening water channels, removing obstacles, and ensuring safe stormwater drainage to protect roads, facilities, and surrounding areas.
