Clearing the Amrit River channel in preparation for winter and to protect the archaeological sites

The teams and machinery of the Directorate of Water Resources in Tartus, in coordination with the Tartus Antiquities Department, have started dredging the Amrit River bed, in addition to the surrounding roads and squares, with the aim of improving rainwater drainage, the flow of water, and reducing the risk of flooding at archaeological sites.

So far, the work has included dredging about 500 meters of the riverbed by removing soil, sediments, weeds, and obstacles. The work is planned to continue to cover the full 1.5 km length of the river, which will improve its capacity to drain rainwater during the winter season.

These efforts are part of the cooperation between the Directorate of Water Resources and the Tartus Antiquities Department to protect the safety of the archaeological sites around the river, reduce the risk of blockages and rising water levels, and ensure the river is ready to handle heavy rainfall.
