Clearing operations for water channels to mitigate flood risks in Latakia Governorate.
The Directorate of Water Resources in Latakia is carrying out dredging and clearing operations for streams, canals, and watercourses across several areas of the governorate. These efforts aim to improve water flow, enhance drainage efficiency, and ensure that water infrastructure is well-prepared to handle rainfall throughout the current season.
The work includes clearing various streams, watercourses, and culverts, as well as removing sediment and obstructions—with the cleared debris being transported away. This improves the capacity of these facilities to channel water, thereby preventing water accumulation and rising water levels during heavy rainfall.
These operations are of direct importance to the public, as they help mitigate the risks of flooding—which can otherwise inundate roads, residential areas, and agricultural land—while reducing potential damage to property and crops, and enhancing public safety in the vicinity of these watercourses.
The General Authority for Water Resources extends its gratitude to the technical staff and personnel of the Latakia Directorate of Water Resources for their efforts in executing these tasks and strengthening the readiness of water infrastructure, ultimately serving the public and protecting agricultural land.
