A joint field tour with the FAO to assess the needs of water facilities and set rehabilitation priorities in Hasakah Governorate

A delegation from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) conducted a field tour in Al-Hasakah Governorate, accompanied by the Director of Technical Affairs, Engineer Abdel Karim Mansour, and several engineers from the Water Resources Directorate, to check out the state of water facilities, assess their needs, and set priorities for intervention and rehabilitation.

The tour included pumping stations 13 and 15, fields 19 and 21, and the Bab al-Hadid, Al-Jawadiyah, Ma’shouq, and Al-Jarahi dams, as well as several main irrigation canals and water harvesting dams in Mount Abdul Aziz.

Technical and coordination meetings were also held to discuss priorities for maintaining and rehabilitating irrigation projects based on economic feasibility and the availability of water resources, while taking environmental and social aspects into account. Setting these priorities is expected to guide rehabilitation efforts toward improving irrigation water delivery to farmland, helping farmers meet their crop needs, and reducing the impacts of declining water facility efficiency on agricultural production and their livelihoods.
