A field tour to check out water harvesting facilities in the Syrian Jazira desert

The staff of the Directorate of Water Resources in Deir ez-Zor conducted a field tour to check the condition of dams and storage pits in the Syrian Jazira Desert, east of the Euphrates River, to see their readiness and ability to store rainwater and floodwater and make use of it.

The tour included the Wadi al-Baqar and Wadi al-Rum dams, as well as inspections of Wadi al-Fersha around the villages of Al-Harmoushiya and Al-Kibar, aiming to assess the technical condition of the facilities and monitor their water situation.

This tour comes as part of following up on water harvesting facilities and enhancing the use of available water resources in the desert areas, contributing to providing water sources that support livestock and help meet the needs of local residents, especially during times of water scarcity.

The General Authority for Water Resources extends thanks to the staff of the Directorate of Water Resources in Deir ez-Zor for their efforts in field monitoring and their commitment to maintaining water harvesting facilities and strengthening their role in developing water resources and serving local communities.
