The tour kicked off with a visit to the main station of Sector Seven, where the team checked out the station's work and inspected several drainage wells in the sector to assess their technical needs and come up with proper solutions to keep them running efficiently.
The tour also included the Sector Five project, where they inspected some box culverts needing maintenance and rehabilitation, which helps improve water transport efficiency and reduce losses, making the most of water resources.
At the main station of Sector Three, the team looked at the non-operational pumps and discussed the necessary steps to secure replacement pumps, ensuring the station keeps running and the irrigation system stays ready during the farming season. This tour is part of the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Energy – Water Resources Authority, the Water Resources Directorate in Deir ez-Zor, and UNDP as part of a vision to develop irrigation infrastructure and enhance the sustainability of water projects, ensuring water reaches farmland, supporting agricultural production, and achieving food security.
The Water Resources Directorate stresses that continuing to rehabilitate and operate irrigation projects is a key foundation for supporting the stability of locals, encouraging residents to return to their villages, and enabling them to make the most of their agricultural land, which positively impacts the economic and living conditions and boosts the recovery and development process in Deir ez-Zor governorate.
