15 water user associations formed on a number of irrigation networks for the Al-Abrash Dam

As part of efforts to improve water investment and develop the management of government irrigation networks, the Tartous Water Resources Directorate held a comprehensive meeting that included the Director of Water Resources, Engineer Muhammad Mahrez, the Director of Agriculture, Dr. Muhammad Ahmad, and the Head of the Farmers' Union, Engineer Raed Mustafa, in addition to the mukhtars (village heads) of the relevant villages, heads of associations, and specialized technical staff.

Discussions at the meeting focused on ways to optimize the investment of available water resources within the groundwater wells project sector and part of the western canal of the Al-Abrash Dam. It was agreed to form 15 water user associations for the irrigation networks in these two projects, with the distribution of water sectors according to the technical and geographical characteristics of the network.

During the deliberations, participants emphasized their full readiness to provide the necessary support to farmers, stressing that the primary goal of this step is to reduce water waste and regulate irrigation schedules, ensuring equitable water distribution among all beneficiaries.

The meeting also addressed mechanisms for supporting these newly formed associations through coordination with donor agencies and international organizations, aiming to develop and modernize irrigation systems. This will positively impact the sustainability of water resources and agricultural production, while also alleviating the burdens on farmers.
